Useful Stuff

  • 716, 808, 839, just what cities do these area codes cover?  You can find out with a quick list here.  Wanna know what your telephone number spells?  Go to phone spell and have some fun.  For more information than you will ever need about area codes and telephone numbers, go to Area Code Info.

  • Have you heard the story that Coca-Cola used to contain cocaine?  Well, this urban legend is true.  But, there are plenty of legends out there that are totally false.  Check out Cokelore and other urban legends at Snopes.com.

  •  A Man, A Plan, A Canal, Panama.  Recognize this as a palindromic sentence?  Don't know what a palindrome is?  Find out all about this and other interesting (really!) word facts at Fun With Words.

  • What is going on with our military?  Find out at Global Security, Defend America or Air Force Link

  • PBI, SDF, OGG, PB&J:  You probably only recognize one of these.  The other three are airport codes but do you know for which airports?  This site will tell you 3-letter codes for airports all over the world.

  • Have you ever just needed the Zip Code for somewhere?  You can look it up at the official U.S. Post Office Zip Code site.

  • An interesting chef, I first saw while living in Edmonton, the Surreal Gourmet.  He debuted in the U.S., July 7th, on The Food Network.

  • You only thought wine was the nectar of the gods.  It is really Limoncello.  In Naples this liqeuer is poured as an after dinner "digestif".  Normally, an open bottle is simply left at your table for you to pour as you wish.

  • A good site to learn About almost anything.  They have it all, here.  Think of a topic and then click on the first letter of that topic.  It will take you to a page listing all topics that start with that letter.   Yours will probably be there.

  • If you travel a lot, this is a good Currency Converter

  • Expand your borders at this World AtlasThis is a great site for settling all of those geographic trivia questions.  Click on "The List" to find out about the highest, longest, deepest, hottest, coldest.....

  • Find out what time it is, anywhere.  One site, among many, that will give you the time anywhere on the planet.  This site is presented graphically and the maps that correspond to the time zones are helpful.

  • Learn Italian in a great little town, in Italy, at the Giacomo Leopardi Center  My brother, his wife and I spent a month here last summer.  It was a lot of fun and the whole town (population 701) will help you learn.

  • You might not know this but, while surfing the net, programs can be secretly loaded onto your computer.  Some of these programs send information about you and your surfing habits to advertisers.  Remove them, automatically, with this free utility
